A Lifesaving Gift
Master of Franklin Lodge, Nick Evans,
hands over the defibrillator to Kaiwaka Fire Chief, John Bowmar, as lodge secretary, Tom Walsh and
mason, Alec Pert, look on
The Kaiwaka Fire Brigade has a brand new string to its lifesaving bow with the gift of a lifesaving defibrillator.
The sophisticated piece of equipment was donated by the Marsden Masonic Lodge, with the $3,000 it cost coming from lodge funds with a contribution from the New Zealand Grand Masonic Lodge.
“This is part of our ongoing contribution to the community,” said Marsden Lodge secretary, Tom Walsh.
The defibrillator is used to shock a victim’s heart and restore normal rythmic patterns. Kaiwaka brigade staff will undergo instruction in its use under fire chief, John Bowmar.
“Marsden Lodge is also seeking new members,” said Mr Walsh.
“There are 26 of us at present and this year we have completed 100 years of service to the community. But to do another 100 we need more younger members. Anyone interested can contact me at 09 423 7137.
