Three Dargaville hairdressing apprentices have topped their years at the Northland Hairdressing Training Centre. Northland Hairdressing has an annual graduation to celebrate student success and this year Dargaville was well represented.
Locals Jessamine Vodanovich, Kim McCahon and Sara Andrew were awarded the Best Apprentice Awards for their years.
From a pool of more than 40 students, these winners were selected for showing commitment and dedication to achieving in the industry, having proven their ability and enthusiasm throughout their training.
“Jessamine from Associates Hair Salon, won Best Year 1 Apprentice, showing she is a motivated and organised learner who is a great role model to others beginning their career,” said hairdressing manager, Tammy Turner.
Born and bred in Dargaville, Jessamine attended Dargaville High School. With a very creative side she has an interest in art and jewellery making and is also an avid surfer and snowboarder.
“I want to complete my apprenticeship and work as a senior stylist and see how well I can do,” said Jessamine.
“She is a great team member, who is now on the floor full-time and has flown ahead. She is a hard-worker and we are proud of what Jessamine has achieved,” said Associates Hair Salon owner, Tanya Wiperi.
“The team from Blondyz, are justifiably proud of their apprentices too. With Kim, taking out Best Year 2 Apprentice and Sara, winning the Best Year 3 Apprentice.
Both are talented stylists who have shown passion and talent for hairdressing. They are also to be commended for their level of hard work which allowed them to complete two years of training in one year,” said Tammy.
Kim is the mother of four boys and is married to Max and together they own a dairy farm. The president of Northland Swimming, Kim has lived in Dargaville for the past 20 years and always wanted to be a hairdresser — now she works three days a week at Blondyz.
“I was given the opportunity to do something that I wanted to do. With sacrifice I have achieved it. It has been a big challenge for me and now I want to get more experience and improve my skills,” said Kim.
Sara was also born in Dargaville and attended Dargaville High School. Painting, crafts and using her creative side are important to Sara, with a love for the great outdoors.
“I am keen to up-skill and continue with more courses and I have a lot to offer new clientele,” said Sara.
“Our team at Blondyz is incredibily proud of Kim and Sara for what they have achieved in the last year. A big thank you to my staff and our loyal clientele for their support, in helping Kim and Sara have a very successful year,” said Blondyz owner, Debbie Sterling.
“I was pleased to be able to recommend the girls for the awards, having seen them all exceed their course requirements and develop their skills.
The future of hair dressing is certainly safe in Dargaville!” said Lisa Blagrove the tutor for Off Job Training.
