“It’s a really wonderful area, fascinating and steeped in history and a part of the country I haven’t seen before.”
The new principal at the Tinopai Primary School, Ben Spooner, has been only a week in the job following the school holidays, but is already a convert to Kaipara living.
“I hail from the Hawke’s Bay and have been a teacher for 37 years and principal of several rural schools, and most recently I was head at Riverslea School in Hastings.
“The Kaipara was a part of the country I hadn’t seen and when this opportunity came up I took it.
“As I said I’ve only had a week in the job but the kids are awesome, as country children are. I have been made hugely welcome in the community. The people here are absolutely fantastic and supportive.”
Mr Spooner says he plans to take advantage of all that Kaipara has to offer in his off duty hours.
“Exploring the area and its history, and most definitely doing some fishing.”
