Dargaville Camera Club president for the last two years, Jan Bellamy has had three of her digital photographs accepted by the North Shore National Salon of Photography and on display in the prestigious annual ‘acceptances’ competitions.
The four digital categories are divided into open, mono, red and movement. “I entered in all the categories with four photos in each and had three accepted.
“Most people are not sure just what an acceptance is, but it is really a biggie because there were 2,122 entries from all over New Zealand and some entries from overseas.”
Her successful images were among those recently displayed for two weeks at Canon NZ head office in Northcote. “My mono was St Mary’s church in Auckland, the red was of autumn leaves I picked from Harding Park which I froze and named ‘ice explosion’. The movement photo was a dolphin.”
Jan has also won an acceptance for her entry in the Laurie Thomas Salon of Christchurch. “The competition was entered by 371 people and 100 entries were rewarded. It was for a New Zealand landscape and mine was of a view of Tinopai.”
A past pupil of Ruawai College, Jan worked in the Ruawai Bank, moving later to a Whangarei bank before she came back to Ruawai and a farming life. She says, “I started taking photos maybe twelve years ago, entered the Salon competition two years ago, didn’t bother last year but decided to enter this year, just to see how our club was measuring up.”
With such success in national competitions the club is clearly doing well.
