Roller Mills update

Count down is now on…

The 2012 Northland Roller Mills rugby squad have started to gel as a team with a few pre-tournament games now under their belt. It was a tough weekend at Waipu going up against the strong Auckland East and Auckland West teams with a loss to both those teams. However, there were positives to come out of these important warm up matches.

Coach Maurice Colley commented “the boys now understand the level of intensity that is required to win the Roller Mills tournament. Importantly, by the second game the boys were able to match the opposition’s intensity as the game wore on.” Historically, the Northland team has found the pre-tournament games tough, but find they provide a good basis for often much stronger performances during the tournament.

The team travels to Papakura, Auckland, this weekend for their final pre-tournament game against Counties Manukau. This will be an important comparison to see that the team can follow through on what they learnt from last weekend’s hit outs.

We have been approached by NRM who are so kindly running a promotional fundraiser for our Squad. We are begging all Northland Farmers to purchase NRM specified products through Farmlands: Dargaville, Kaitaia and Waipapa between the period of 10th — 21st September 2012. They are willing to donate $1.00 for every Moozlee, Grow Up 20%, Grow Up 16%, Ready Rumen, or Power Whey. If every farmer in the Northland Region gets behind this promotion it would be massive for our squad. We would love your support!

The rugby community from the top half of the North Island will descend on the Teachers Eastern Rugby Club in Orakei on September 29th to witness the 83rd running of the annual Roller Mills Rugby Tournament. This tournament has seen many famous New Zealand rugby players including current All Blacks Sonny-Bill Williams, Kevin Mealamu and Richard Kahui.

Any messages of support can be posted on the Northland Roller Mills Facebook page. The players would love to hear from the support base in Northland. We want a sea of Northland blue jerseys to flood Auckland!
