Young adults in Kaipara can now take part in a four week pre-employment, work ready course, being held in Te Kopuru.

The course officially called the “T500 Kode program” is run by Sarah Solutions, a workplace communication consultant business owned by Sarah Searle. Because of Sarah’s past experience in similar fields, Work and Income approached her to run the course.

It is for 18–24 year olds and runs weekdays 9am–4.30pm from the old joinery factory on Norton street, which is being renovated.

Twenty-three young adults have signed up for the first block, with some coming from as far as Kaihu and Maungaturoto.

“We’ve got lots of young mothers who are all very capable,” says Sarah.

The course covers things like cooking, healthy lifestyles, fitness, work experience, communication skills, literacy, numeracy, resumes and interview skills.”

Sarah plans to run the courses “as long as it takes.” She is passionate about “giving back and making a difference to people. And I love this community.”

She runs a pick up service from Dargaville, but if someone is keen to come and having transport problems, Sarah is happy to negotiate and find a way to get them along.
