The Kauri Coast Recreational Society have announced that the Dargaville Sportsville facility at Memorial Park will soon be underway, with the building contract signed with the Arco Group, a Whangarei-based construction company.
“We are very happy to have finally got to the point of being able to sign-up Arco, after literally months of hard work in redesigning the building to fit with the funding that we have confirmed,” said society chairman Chris Biddles.
“It has certainly been a frustrating time while we have tried to fit the design into the available funding, but we are very happy to now be in a position to start the construction of the facility in the coming months.”
Work is still being undertaken by project managers Griffiths and Associates to sign up a contractor to build the netball and tennis courts. This is expected to occur in the coming weeks.
The project has been made possible through grants from Foundation North, $1.033m, New Zealand Lotteries, $650,000, and Pub Charity $178,000.
These grants followed initial seed funding from Kaipara District Council $100,000, and local stakeholders $220,000.
Mr Biddles stressed there is still a need to continue with local fundraising as there are still smaller aspects of the project that need financing.
