The Dargaville Business Forum has elected a new chair and committee with plans to “make things happen” in the business community.
Jean Johnson is chairperson, Lance Warmington vice chair, Sue Curtis the secretary, and Sharon Constable, treasurer, with Craig Woollam, Sheena Mckenzie and Penny Smart making up the rest of the committee.
“Every town needs a business forum. We need to network, we need to know what’s happening and we need to help out different businesses in the area - new ones, existing ones and even those who have been in business for many years. That’s what we’re here for,” said Jean.
“We had a good meeting and lots of people were very enthusiastic. They all want to see something happen here in Dargaville. We also had a couple of new people, which was really encouraging.
“It is a big networking thing and it’s about getting new ideas coming through. We all have to work as a team to get something out of it.”
Changes and initiatives the forum came up with at their meeting were reducing the annual fee to $50, running a Christmas shop window display competition and getting businesses on board to trial staying open till 6pm on Friday nights.
The Christmas window display competition will finish Tuesday, December 5 and businesses will be handed an entry form soon.
