Changing of the Guard
Banker, churchman, sportsman and community leader, Rex Nathan, is leaving the Dargaville workforce — for a life in retirement which shows no signs of slowing down. It seems like the end of an era in Dargaville as the first month of a new decade slips away into the past. Well-known ANZ Bank manager, Rex Nathan, is retiring on Friday 29th of January after a working life of 47 years in banking and the post office.

Three Dargaville hairdressing apprentices have topped their years at the Northland Hairdressing Training Centre. Northland Hairdressing has an annual graduation to celebrate student success and this year Dargaville was well represented. Locals Jessamine Vodanovich, Kim McCahon and Sara Andrew were awarded the Best Apprentice Awards for their years.

The Kaiwaka Fire Brigade has a brand new string to its lifesaving bow with the gift of a lifesaving defibrillator. The sophisticated piece of equipment was donated by the Marsden Masonic Lodge, with the $3,000 it cost coming from lodge funds with a contribution from the New Zealand Grand Masonic Lodge.
